What a treat! My first Hummingbird Clear-winged Moth of the year -- two of 'em, in fact -- and at the Butterfly Garden no less!
Also has at least one Monarch some sort of non-stop black swallowtail, and the usual little guys.
Monarch was near Carlos' Bench, and then near the deer exclosure.
Should be getting more butterflies in the coming week.
The Butterfly Garden has been looking great of late -- thanks to the Butterfly Ladies and all their gardening and planting, Ken Wiegand, who built the new rustic cedar fence, and Mike Buckley for mowing. (Not to mention all the wonderful work that the other volunteers do!)
Bruce Davis (the master chipper) and I tried to do our bit this morning by transplanting two dozen Common Milkweed plants from Stiles and Lillian Thomas's yard to next to the Butterfly Garden. It only seemed fitting.
We know that the timing was not ideal but hope that some survive. (Fingers crossed.)
The Oxnard Butterfly Garden is looking great, thanks to our great volunteers.
Saw four Butterfly ladies weeding and planting new flora yesterday (Gaby Schmitt, Lisa Safier, Dora Sammer and Patty Finn).
Walked by today to admire the new fence built by Ken Wiegand.

Pretty neat butterfly -- I had not seen one at the Celery Farm before... Input from readers would be appreciated.
Jerry Barrack and I saw seven species of butterflies plus Hummingbird Moth at the Butterfly Garden around noon today.
