What is the subject of the above painting?

Where is it hanging?

(If anybody knows who painted this and when, let me know!)

Several folks got he location right -- the Hudson River Palisades. The artist, courtesy of John Pastore and Tom Jaeger.

Tom writes: "It is signed by Ruth Wilcox in the lower right hand corner. Ruth Dawes Wilcox. Wilcox  (1908-1989), was an artist from Closter. Knowing some of your interests, I would guess Stateline Lookout and hung in the State Line Cafe."

Thanks, Tom, John and the others who answered.

One respondent thought there might be a rail line at the base of the cliffs, but I think the smoke might have been from a campfire.
