Monday Morning Mystery 071822

IMG_5885Got this at Wave Hill last week. What is it?

Hint: It's related to National Moth Week, which starts Saturday.

There's a free event at the Fell House this Saturday night:

Moth Night at the Fell House.

Saturday, July 23 is Moth Night, and Fyke and Lee Memorial Library are kicking off National Moth Week. Elena Tartaglia, a biology professor at Bergen Community college and a National Moth Week founder, will do a short talk at 7:45 p.m. and supply the moth lights.

We will also show "Mothra Vs. Godzilla" outside and serve s'mores. Bring your own non-aerosol mosquito spray and water. Ends at 10 p.m.

To register, email Jim Wright at [email protected].

A Wonderful Butterfly Walk

IMG_5930

A big thank you to all who participated in this morning's Celery farm Butterfly Walk.

We had a terrific turnout, and quite a few butterflies not only showed up but hung around for a few photo ops.

Among the butterflies: Monarch, Eastern Tailed-Blue, Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, Black Swallowtail, Cabbage White, and several skippers.

Hope to post some butterfly shots from today's walk later.

(Would also like to thank Mother Nature for the sunshine, Fred Weber (pictured)  and the volunteer naturalists from the Fyke Nature Association who helped out, and the Lee Memorial Library for all their butterfly activities.

Don't forget: Next Saturday night is Moth Night, brought to you by (and at) the John Fell House, Lee Memorial Library, and the Fyke Nature Association.
