Protective-Goose Update

IMG_7360
Went out to check on the aggressive Canada Goose yesterday at the Warden's Watch.

I discovered that the goose had concealed the eggs before, and is sitting on three eggs.

This is no storybook Mother Goose. She can be belligerent, so you need to be nimble and quick.

I put up a sign, below.

(Also, as the other sign says, "Skate at Your Own Risk.")

Sneak Attack at the Warden's Watch

IMG_7351

At approx. 5:30 p.m. yesterday, I was standing in front of the Warden's Watch, minding my own binoculars, when I felt a sharp pinch just below my knee.

I looked down to see the culprit -- an agitated Canada Goose.

When I tried to shoo it away, its mate came flying in.

I retreated to the Warden's Watch, where I got the above photo from above.

The geese are probably nesting there, so beware.

Will put up yellow warning tape.

Beware: Bears at Feeders

IMG_7347
This morning, Stiles Thomas reported that a bear tore down three of his feeders in Allendale (above and below).

On the Fyke e-mail list this morning, Betty McDonnell reported that a bear had ripped down several of her feeders.

Bears also tore down several feeders in Allendale late last year.

Time to take your feeders in at night? Definitely. Plase let me know if a bear has taken down your feeder(s) recently.

The "Bird Watcher" column I wrote about bears at feeders early last December  is here.
