Swallowtail with (Partly) Swallowed Tail
April 28, 2016
Saw this Eastern Tiger Swallowtail in my front yard yesterday afternoon, but somebody else saw it first.
An otherwise awesome afternoon.

As you can see from this early morning shot through the tangle of branches at Blue Heron Pond, the Wilson's Snipe is still at the Celery Farm.
I never would have found it if not for those who found it earlier this week, beginning, I believe, with Denise Farrell. (Thanks, Denise!)
If anybody wants to look for it later today (Wednesday), I'd be happy to help.
Had a Red Fox running down the trail by Allendale Brook, too.
My latest post for Duke Farms' blog is an interview with Larissa Smith, biologist for Conserve Wildlife Foundation.
She is leading the effort to monitor dozens of Bald Eagle nests in New Jersey and also runs CWF’s citizen-science project to learn more about the Duke Farms eaglets’ diet.
The interview is here.
The Trenton State Library has invited me to speak next Tuesday, May 3, at noon, about my coffee-table book "The Nature of the Meadowlands" and the restoration of this former wasteland.
If you're in the area, please check it out! If you anyone who lives or works in Trenton, spread the word. Thanks!
More information on the talk can be found here.
