Been watching the nest cam most of the day. Parents not giving many good looks at the eggs, but one is clearly opening and acting like a jumping bean.
The link is here.
Cam is here.
The photo I showed at last night's talk of Laura flying from the nest at the Gulicks' house on Franklin Turnpike recently was taken by Jim O'Leary. You can even see the band on her right leg. Just wanted to give credit where it was due.
(Thanks, Jim!)
It was a memorable evening at the Fyke Meeting last night.
Great to hear Marsh Warden Emeritus Stiles Thomas talk about the history of the Red-shouldered Hawks in Allendale, and to see so many new and familiar faces.
I hope folks had as good a time as Stiles and I did.
That's Stiles on the right with his carving of Laura the Red-shoulder.
The big announcement, by the way, is that Laura's mate now has a name.
He is Ken, named after the human Laura's husband.
Both Kens seemed pleased.
