The 2015 Celery Farm calendars are here, and Fyke folks will be selling them at the Franklin Turnpike entrance on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon both days, weather-permitting.

They cost $15, and all proceeds toward environmental education.

Did I mention they make great gifts for anyone who knows about the Celery Farm -- or needs to know!

On Saturday, Sept. 13, my wife and I drove an injured Red-tailed hawk to The Raptor Trust, thanks to all the vigilant folks on Maltbie Avenue in Midland Park.

We recently received another update from TRT, and sorry to say, it is bad news -- the Red-tail died last week, apparently from kidney problems. It was in bad shape when we rescued him, so we sensed it was an uphill battle.

Stiles Thomas unveiled his latest carving -- a Red-shouldered Hawk earlier today to a standing-room only crowd at Stateline Lookout during "Hawks Over the Hudson Day." 

It was an amazing day all around.

Today (Sunday, Oct. 5) State Line Lookout in Alpine, in the Palisades Interstate Park in New Jersey, will host a special nature event called “Hawks Over the Hudson.”

To be held rain or shine from 12 to 4 p.m., the program will feature live birds of prey presented by the Delaware Valley Raptor Center at 1 and 2:30 PM.

At 12:15 or so, Celery Farm Marsh Warden Emeritus Stiles Thomas will unveil his latest carving -- of a Red-shouldered Hawk. There may be an Allendale Irish step-dancer performing as well.

Between the programs, visitors will have a chance to see the animals up close, chat with the presenters, and to enjoy activities and exhibits presented by some of the member organizations of the Nature Program Cooperative, an affiliation of local nature centers and environmental groups that is sponsoring the event.

The program is free and open to all, with no advanced registration required to attend.
