Help the Mount Peter Hawk Watch

Mt_pete
The Mount Peter Hawk Watch in nearby Warwick, NY, needs your help.

The watch, the third oldest continuous Hawk Watch (behind Hawk Mountain and Montclair), begins its fall count on Thursday, and Watch leader Judy CInquina needs help at a clean-upon Sunday (rain date Wednesday), plus   volunteer counters.

Full info, including directions and hawk watch hours, follows.

Sunday, August 28 is clean-up day on Mount Peter. Please join us for a couple o0f hours starting 9 a.m. to pick up garbage, trim shrubs, & cut down trees to improve our site lines. Bring gloves, clippers, and saws. Repairs will also be made to our platform. More volunteers = less work for everyone, and our traditional reward is worth the effort. (Directions to site are below.)

Hawk Watch Volunteers: Anyone who would like to volunteer for half a day, a whole day, or many days, please contact me at: judycinq@optonline.net.

Everyone is invited to visit the lookout, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily, September 1 - November 15. To reach the lookout, take Route 17 through Tuxedo to 17A and turn left. Follow 17A up the mountain and into Greenwood Lake. Keep right when you reach the lake and follow 17A up the second mountain. When you reach the top, you will see a sign for homemade ice cream ahead. Turn right at the ice cream shop onto Kain Rd. and turn right again up the pot-holed dirt road to the lot or park down below. The lookout platform is but a short walk uphill from the upper parking lot.
