Fyke Programming Change

Due to a scheduling change, the program for Friday's Fyke Nature Assoc. meeting at Allendale Borough Hall at 8 p.m. will be the movie "Opposable Chums," a 65-minute, lighthearted documentary about the World Series of Birdding -- a great, uniquely New Jersey competition involving the best birders in the world.

The flick features such birding heavyweights as Pete Dunne and David Sibley, and sounds pretty cool. (And it's not on Netflix.)

Hope to see you there!

Monday Mystery Revealed

P1080122-1

This mystery was an excuse to run this nice springtime flower photo.

The key word was "magical" -- the caption I thought of was "Hocus Pocus: Crocus Focus," correctly answered by Carol.

Deedee offered: "Wing ding, bring spring!"

But Molly came up with a great caption, given yesterday morning's surprise snowfall: "Low Blow, Snow??? Nooooo!!!"

BTW, the place where the photo was taken was the "Hocus Pocus, Crocus Focus" Locus. Apologies to all.

This Morning's Snow

IMG_8370
IMG_8378 I am getting a little weary of snow, but figured I'd make the best of it and take a few photos before footprints intruded and/or the snow disappeared.

These two photos were taken by the Spillway, one looking toward the Warden's watch and the other looking counter-clockwise along the Mayor FitzPatrick Trail.

I realized as I processed them that they as well have been in black and white, so that's what I did.

Something different, as my mom liked to say.

Neat Fyke Program This Friday

Friday's Fyke Nature Association program, to be held at 8 p.m. at Allendale Borough Hall, 500 W. Crescent Ave., promises to be another good one:

Stephen Quinn, senior project manager in the American Museum of Natural History’s Department of Exhibition, will discuss his work with the museum's amazing dioramas.

The link to his bio is here: http://www.stephencquinn.com/bio.html.

I wrote a column about his annual backyard hawk watch for The Record last year. Link is here.
