Garlic Mustard Team Pulled Together
May 03, 2009
Here's a big shout-out to the 15 Fyke Nature Association volunteers who tackled the Garlic Mustard invasion atthe Celery Farm.
(Several volunteers declined to have their picture taken above, perhaps because of previous parole violations.)
The group pulled up 20 garbage bags' worth of the invasive plant -- and made a dent in the Garlic Mustard problem. It was a great start.
We are planning to try again on Sunday, May 17, at 2 p.m, We'll meet again at Green Way and pull out the weed for about an hour. It is hard work.
By the way, you don't have to wait for the next work detail to cut the mustard. Just bring a plastic bag with you next time you go birding at the Celery Farm, and pull up some Garlic Mustard by the roots along the way.
Make sure you bag all the Garlic Mustard that you pull, or you'll inadvertantly help spread this noxious invasive weed.
