STATE LINE LOOKOUT
October 17, 2008
I am a big fan of hawk lookouts, and the one off the Palisades Interstate Parkway northbound offers several pluses that few others can.
We arrived at 11a.m., a bit late for morning raptor watching, but we did see three Kestrels, two Sharpies, a Harrier and an Osprey. We also saw a loon pictured here (I assumed it was a D.C.Cormorant, but the marsh warden gently pointed out the error of my ways.)
We also saw 450ish Pine Siskins whiz past, flock after flock.

Like Hook Mountain, Stateline Lookout not only offers great Hudson River views, but it also is incredibly accessible and is right next to bathrooms
and food and beverages.
As far as I know, it is the only Bergen County hawkwatch, and although it is not manned by volunteer raptor watchers, it's a good spot to be on a nice autumn day.
By the way, we did see a bunch of migrating D.C. Cormorants.
