BEYOND: Young starling

Starling

I got a call from an acquaintance about an injured bird last weekend, and thought it best to investigate post haste.
I found this little guy in a side yard on Crescent Avenue in Allendale. With the help and confirmation of Sibley,  I concluded it was a juvenile starling.
With the help and advice of the marsh warden, I suggested to the  homeowner that she  leave the bird be.
As they say in the medicine biz,  "First, Do No Harm."

CELERY FARM: Dragonfly Fest Part 1

Lede

I took several dragonfly shots on Sunday with a macro lens, and have a new perspective on things -- I am more small-minded than ever.
Thanks to Deedee Burnside and Tom Burr with the help on the IDs. Most appreciated.

Click "Continue reading"  for views of four great Celery Farm dragonflies. There'll be three or four more later this week.

CELERY FARM: Monday morning mystery

Img_6315    I was testing the macro lens on Saturday when all of a sudden I noticed this little guy, about the size of a Tic Tac.
I am enjoying the macro lens because I am seeing the Celery Farm from a whole new perspective -- magnifying glass instead of binoculars.
The problem with all of this is I have a whole new set of identification problems, beginning with a set of dragonflies seen at the Celery Farm over the weekend.
I will post them on Tuesday.

CELERY FARM: Dragonfly heaven

At the Warden's Watch at noon on Sunday, dragonflies were buzzing everywhere -- a half-dozen species  at least.
I'll post more photos later, after I get my experts to help me ID them.
I am borrowing my friend Jerry's macro lens -- hence the improved image quality.
  Thanks, Jerry!
