Butterfly walk
July 03, 2007
For a nice leisurely walk around the Celery Farm, check out the free butterfly walk tomorrow (Wednesday, July 4) from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
The great thing about butterfly walks (unlike many bird walks) is that they start a lot later, so you get to sleep in on the July 4 holiday.
What's more, butterflies can be easier to see than birds this time of year.
My guess is we might even see some dragonflies as well, at no additional charge.
Bring sunscreen, sun hat and sunglasses. Parking is at the north end of the Celery Farm, off the Franklin Turnpike, at the end of Green Way. Might bring a light snack and water, too.
Note: The butterfly above was photographed on some mountain laurel at Hawk Mountain in Pennsylvania.
I'm thinking eastern tiger swallowtail. Maybe we can double-check that ID tomorrow, too.
It appears as though this one almost got eaten by a bird. It's a jungle out there. (So bring some bug spray, too).
