Last Monday I asked readers to I.D. this toothless skull from Harrier Meadow in the Meadowlands.
For the first time, I got six different answers. I ultimately went with muskrat, since so many have lived in the region's marshes for so long.
Yesterday, at the Meadowlands Birding Festival, I asked long-time naturalist Don Smith what he thought.
Don has been hunting and trapping muskrats in the area since he was a kid.
His verdict: Young woodchuck. Congrats to Mary Royce for answering correctly (or at least the same as the expert)!
